@Cyberdevil Well, I had the anime interest before I joined the unfortunately acronymed “DUMAS”, but it certainly encouraged and enabled me to dive deeper down the rabbit hole! The more you know XD
I know of Sublime and No Doubt, but I’ve not actually listened to much despite their popularity. Sad times with overdosing... too much of that going on in the music community... I think your description is mostly accurate with regards 3rd wave ska though at least :) True that too with regards the music of life in all genres to a certain extent (and often in different ways). Enjoy B99 if you have a chance to watch any!
No worries! Can’t make a (great) record without patience IMO! I’m sure it would be quicker these days too :) Learnt a lot from that collab and since, and that was definitely my biggest collab at the time. I really don’t remember which line would have been changed either. Really chuffed with the way it all turned out though! An honour to have you on it :D
Maybe a bit of both? I think it’s important not to forget, more just to process. +1 to the sentiments and I certainly hope so.
Hehe XD I thought we might! Perhaps because you’re a waaaay better wordsmith than me! XD
I’ve often considered having a whiteboard and marker pen in the bathroom, but that sounds a lot more convenient!
No worries, and really happy you enjoyed the read! I certainly hope people got something out of it. Definitely a commitment going though the whole thing though :) Thanks for sticking through it, CD!

Durham Manga and Anime Society huh, didn't know the anime interest had such official roots! Interesting. And I don't think I knew the origin of the Jabun name all the way before this either, more so than that it was LoZ related...
With regard to Ska I was personally probably officially introduced to the genre via Sublime, and only later realized that another band I'd been a fan of since earlier (No Doubt) was at least in the early years very much a Ska band too. Years later found out the lead singers of both actually had a relationship for a while, and performed together during the very brief Sublime heyday. The lead singer in Sublime unfortunately overdosed, but No Doubt kept going and Gwen Stefani's as well-known as ever now aaand for a very long time that was my very limited experience with what seemed like a very small Ska world. :)
I first saw it as a more American, more Punk-like, drug-influenced wild and crazy but also indeed very down to Earth and real musical style that for that reason probably really resonated with me as a teen. But anyway, interesting how different a first introduction and impression you might get of a particular genre, though it being the music of life, that just might be an essence of it regardless. Then again so many genres are, or at least the music I tend to lean towards within any one. Google time on Brooklyn 99 though hmm...
That HipHopPunk feature turned into a more elaborate bit than planned I think, I remember other tracks getting finished in parallel as we went back and forth, do appreciate the patience you had there; certainly a great experience in the end; a great learning one too! The process would probably be so much more streamlined today. ;) And that minor lyrical compromise might've ended up for the best, I remember being a bit reluctant to make changes but listening now I can't place the replaced line at all! Truly an honor to have been a part of that too!
Ah there's that darker part... do remember that dark phase... I wonder sometimes if relaying dark thoughts in music is truly cathartic in a way where you gain closure, or if in a way it makes you hold onto that darkness instead... maybe the musical tone and process is what really matters. Not so much the content as in how you channel that emotion... either way dark moments do make for great music. Sounds like you really managed that channeling thing the right way.
We do lean differently on the preference in regard to music and/or lyrics question hmm. :)
Also sounds like a waterproof phone might be handy for those sudden inspiration shower sessions! XD
Apologies on somewhat derailing earlier comment sections with not always relevant interview-related conversation! This really was a great interview. Seems like there's something here for everyone, even if they're not delving into the realm of music in particular. Well-worth these three pages!
